Early Photography’s Discontent: Historicizing and Contextualizing Image Recording and Visual Representation in the Sciences.

The complex disciplinary placement of photography can be understood through a line of questioning that combines the empirical, rhetorical, and aesthetic. This type of multidisciplinary examination serves to historicize photography as an image recording technology, constructing a model for the exploration of other media of visual representation in a context of visual analytical tasks that moves beyond the empirical sciences to also include study in the humanities.
